An XCiting Season

On Saturday October 3rd, the Mishawaka Cross Country teams competed against the twelve NIC teams: Penn, New Prairie, Riley, St. Joe, Adams, Elkhart Central, Jim Town, Bremen, Clay, Washington, and Marshall. Colin Richardson placed 6th for the boys and Jessica Duvall in 2nd for the girls. Both the boys and girls teams finished 2nd. The boys scored 59 and the girls scored 49. Both teams moved on to sectionals.
The sectional meet was on Saturday, October 10th. The day was also senior night for the eight seniors: Jessica Duvall, Cali-Sue Melton, Keira Pelletier, Colin Richards, AJ Glick, Dakota Williams, Christian Hardin, and Garrett Skwiat. The boys’ race kicked off sectionals with the seven top runners: Collin Richardson (Sr.), AJ Glick (Sr.), Joey McIntire (Jr.), Brandon Lighty (Jr.), Joe Streeter (So.), Vince Streeter (Jr.), and Christian Hardin (Sr.). Richards maintained 2nd the entire race. McIntire and a Penn runner raced together for the entire race. Ultimately McIntire passed the Penn runner and placed 3rd overall. In the end it came down to Penn and Mishawaka. It was a close race, 40-48 Mishawaka.
The girls’ team also dominated the course. Jessica Duvall fought for first and went on to win 1st place. Damaris Wyant came in 4th. The seven top girls’ runners were able to compete: Jessica Duvall (Sr.), Damaris Wyant (So.), Kiera Pelletier (Sr.), Faith Quintana (Fr.), Haley Smith (Fr.), Morgan Washington (Fr.), and Carolina Quintana (Jr.). The girls’ team also had a close race, but came 2nd to Penn. Mishawaka scored 49 and Penn scored 27. Both girls and boys both advanced to regionals on Saturday October 17th at Oxbow Park in Goshen.
