Kicking Off the Track Season


Track season has officially started! Both boys and girls track teams have begun their 2016 season. Last year the boys and girls teams came close to the sectional title both coming in second. This year they admit they have lost great talent, but expect great results through hard work and effort.

This year coaching the girls track team is Coach Kov. Last year he was voted Coach of the Year in the N.I.C Conference. Assisting him is Coach Thomas, the hurdle and high jump coach, Coach Horban, the throwing coach and Coach O (Oboikovitz) the distance coach. The boys’ head track coach is Coach Shaw. He is assisted by Coach Kinder the throwing coach and Coach Jodway the field events coach. This weekend both girls and boys varsity teams already traveled to their first indoor meet in Angola, Indiana; the indoor meet was held at Trine University. Starting off the meet was pole vault, a field event. Jacob Macdonald cleared 12 inches to get 4th overall. In shot put, Austin Kisrow was 4th overall throwing for a distance of 42’ 4.75” and Derrick Shide with a distance of 39’ 0.5” to get 8th overall. In the high jump Jason Foster tied for third with 6’ 0” and Devin Jodway long jumped 16’ 9” to get 14th place overall. Next up were the track events; sprinting in the 60m dash were Cavemen Nick Gebo and Peyton Marshall. Gebo ran a 7.82 to get 18th and Marshall ran a 7.87 to get 20th overall. The 3,200m run was ran by Dylan Williams with a time of 11:17 to get 9th place, Joe Streeter with 11:20 to get 11th and John Zylstra who ran a 12:05 to get 15th overall. 60m hurdles were ran by Tim Calderone with a 9.12 getting 2nd, Seth Mackowitz with a 9.61 getting 5th, and Christian Vasquez with a 9.65 getting 6th overall. In the 400x200m was the team of Peyton Marshall, Isaiah Evans, Tyler Reppert, and Nick Gebo who finished 8th with a time of 1:45. The 400x400 team included Christian Vasquez, Jason Foster, Joey Mcintire, and Tim Calderone who combined ran a 3:52 and placed 3rd overall. In the 400x800m Joey Micintire, Brandon Lighty, John Groom, and Dakota Williams ran a 9:07 to earn 4th place overall.

The girls meet started with the throwers. In shot put Queen Walker threw a 33’ 10” to get 2nd, Brittney Hosler threw a 31’ 8.5” to place 5th and Cameron Schultheis threw a 29’ 5” to get 9th. In long jump Rylin Bargarus jumped 14’ 7” to place 7th overall. In high jump Skyler Madison jumped 4’ 9” to get 6th overall. Running the 60m dash was Jada Graham with an 8.74 placing 17th overall, DeiJana Smith with 8.99 placing 23rd overall, and Alexis Jackey placing 5th with 8.27. Running the 3,200m was Jessica Duvall who placed 5th overall with a time of 12:01, Faith Quintana placed 7th with a time of 12:17, and Kiera Pelletier placed 12th overall with 12:13. In the 60m hurdles Kerri Clark placed 8th overall with 11.59 and Skyler Norris placed 11th overall with 14.79. Running the 4x400m was Rylin Bargarus, Anobia Bullock, Jessica Duvall, and Madison Keril who all placed 3rd with 4:22. Running the 4x800m was Skyler Hampton, Damaris Wyant, Haley Smith and Rylin Bargarus they ran a 11:42 and got 6th place overall. In the 4,000 distance medley was Jessica Duvall, Damaris Wyant, Rylin Bargarus, and Faith Quintana they placed 4th overall with 14:03.

Both teams will compete again this weekend at Trine University 10:00 am on Saturday March 12th. Come out and support your Cavemen this season!
