Quiz bowl starts season off

The Mishawaka High School Quiz Bowl team had their third and most recent match on Wednesday, November 4th at Riley High School against the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. The match ended with a score of 265-255 points for Varsity and 260-200 points for JV, with Riley in the lead for both teams. The match ended with very close scores. The gap between the final scores had to do with approximately just one question according to Mr. Steinkellner, the Mishawaka Quiz Bowl coach. He believes that the Riley Quiz Bowl team is a solid team.

The Quiz Bowl team competed in their first match against St. Joseph High School on Wednesday, October 21. St. Joseph has been the Quiz Bowl state champion for roughly ten years. The Mishawaka team was overtaken by a score of 405-175 points.

The next match was on Wednesday, October 28 at Marian High School. The final scores were 265-200 for Varsity and 200-120 for JV with Mishawaka in the lead with both teams. Mr. Steinkellner says that the Marian team is in better condition than it was last year. This shows the possible potential of the Mishawaka team.

The team’s next match will be Wednesday, November 11th at Penn. The Penn team is at the same level as Mishawaka, and Mr. Steinkellner believes that this match will be a win for Mishawaka. John Zylstra, a sophomore and important member of the team, anticipates a strong season and hopes that the fact that they “have a lot of new members this year” will aid in that. The Mishawaka Quiz Bowl team is currently 1:2 and one can be optimistic that this season will be exceptional.
